Digital Sketch

Digital Sketch - Steven Universe

After seeing the Steven Universe pilot, I felt like drawing this guy having fun!

Animation

Animation - Western Rabbit

After painting one of my western layouts, I wanted to see how those layouts would look animated. So I painted a few more, and animated them in Premiere. I like how it turned out, but texture-painted animation takes forever.

Digital Sketch

Digital Sketch - The Hangover

Some more digital caricatures, to celebrate tomorrow's release of the Hangover III. It's hard getting the same quality of construction digitally, but I'm getting there. Also, this is not the first time I've caricatured Ken Jeong.

Animation

Animation Cleanup - Octopus Cycle

I thought this summer I'd start taking some of my previous rough animations and experiment with some cleanup styles. This was cleaned up in Photoshop with a technique I learned from graphic digital painting, and composited in Premiere. I really like this style and am pleased with the result.

For reference, here's the original pencil test I did last year.

Digital Sketch

Digital Sketch - Wizards

Quick little update! Watched the Hobbit yesterday and was inspired to draw Gandalf, Radagast, and Saruman. Still learning how to draw in Photoshop, so I'm slow, but I'm learning. I may take this piece farther at some point.

Animation

Animation - Muzzle/Beak Sync Process

Thought I'd show the progression of this last animation. This is the last piece I have to post from the school year, so blog updates will be slower from this point on. I'm thinking once a week, on Sundays.

Digital Painting

Digital Painting - Layout

Our last painting assignment was to paint one of our layouts. I chose this one from the western assignment, and I'm happy with how it turned out. I'm slowly learning more about how to paint digitally.

Life Drawing

Life Drawing - Year Two, Semester Two

There's a lot less to show for life drawing this semester, because we had a few less classes, and those that remained were largely dedicated to concepts like drapery or creature creation (taking the model's pose and creating a realistic fantasy creature in that pose). See the full set of drawings after the break.

Storyboarding

Storyboarding - TV Boards

Our last assignment in storyboard was to take our period characters from Character Design (my Japanese characters), script a three-sequence story with them, and board one of those sequences in the style of Canadian TV boards. TV boards are very different in their presentation, which the use of mechanicals, so I had to think a little differently about staging them. We were also limited to 20 panels, even though my sequence ended up becoming two, which was definitely a challenge for me because my tendancy is to over-board. Overall I think they turned out all right though. See the full boards, beat boards, and character lineup after the break.
